Fumiyuki Beppu pens Skil-Shimano deal

Skil-Shimano has added Japanese rider Fumiyuki Beppu to the team rooster for next season. The 24-year-old Beppu has been on the European circuit for quite some time, starting out at Velo Club La Pomme Marseille, where he spent a number of years. He made his professional debut in 2005 in the jersey of Discovery Channel, the former team of Tour legend Lance Armstrong, which will fold at the end of this season. The Shonan native is an all-round cyclist who is especially good at climbing. The Skil-Shimano management certainly feel he can go a long way.
Fumiyuki Beppu, who is set to ride a predominantly European schedule, has been one of Japan’s strongest riders for a number of years, winning national road and time-trial titles in 2006. This season he finished second in stage three of the Tour de Romandie, seventeenth in the GP Ouest France-Plouay and was a regular at the front in the Eneco Tour.
Besides the European races, Beppu is also motivated for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. ‘Skil-Shimano is a team with an ambitious atmosphere and I think I will develop to a higher level here,’ says Beppu.
